PC Caster Kit Information

The PC Caster connects your computer (PC) to the Avcast personal entertainment network using the existing coaxial cable wiring in your home.  The PC Caster takes the audio and video output from the TV card in your PC and changes it onto a TV signal that can be viewed on any television connected to the Avcast network.    The difference between the PCCaster and the MediaCaster is that the PCCaster allows you to control your PC from any TV with the RF Keyboard and Mouse.  The PC Caster is not intended to be a substitute for your monitor or for prolonged remote TV-based computer usage.

The PC Caster KIT comes with the PC Caster, Manual, Coax Cable, USB Cable, Drivers (for Windows 95, 98 and 2000), RF Wireless Keyboard and Wireless Mouse.

In addition, the PC Caster allows you to control your PC with two different remote devices: the Avcast Wireless Mouse and the Avcast Wireless Keyboard. These remote devices communicate with the PC Caster via a radio frequency (RF) signal. The PC Caster transmits the information it receives from the remote devices to the PC via a USB connection.

The diskette included with the PC Caster contains the Avcast Settings application and device drivers for your PC to complete the installation process. Drivers for Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows 2000 and Windows ME are included on the diskette.

A wall adapter that is plugged into a local electrical outlet supplies power to the PC Caster.

Items in the PC Caster Kit include:

  • PC Caster (1)
  • 6-foot Coaxial Cable (1)
  • 6-foot Audio/Video Cable (1)
  • USB Cable (1)
  • Terminator (1)
  • Device Drivers Diskette for Windows® 98, Windows® 2000 and Windows ME (1)
  • 15 VDC Wall Adapter (1)
  • RF Keyboard (2)
  • RF Mouse (2)

The Optimum resolution for the PC Caster is 800x600 and the range for the RF keyboard and mouse is approximately 50-100ft.

Please not that the above kit will work only if you have a CableCaster or an Avcast Media Kit.  Additional information can be found at www.crossbarmedia.com

The FAQs should help you to decide if the PC Caster is right for you.  If you do not find the answer to your question there or you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us at support@crossbarmedia.com

Why would I use a PC Caster and not a MediaCaster?

You essentially get the functionality of the MediaCaster with two key differences:

  • RF Wireless keyboard and Mouse to control your PC from any TV being viewed
  • A wider channel broadcast range. The PC Caster can broadcast from channels (Cable 65, Antenna 15) to channels (Cable 101, Antenna 45) in increments of 2.

What is the quality of the text on the TV screen?

The quality is fine for large print (such as the use with myHTPC) for browsing your media files and selecting and playing them remotely.  The quality is not designed for remote prolonged reading of your PC at high resolutions.  A resolution of 800x600 is ok for occasional surfing.

Is there a manual with the PC Caster?

Yes, there is a manual that ships with the PC Caster.

If I don’t like it can I return it?

You may return the PC Caster for a refund minus a 20% restocking fee ONLY if:

  • The PC Caster is not working or
  • The PC Caster is not modulating the Video/Audio signal at an acceptable quality similar to a MediaCaster
